Summit Carbon Solutions

(AMES, Iowa) February 16, 2022 – Summit Carbon Solutions joined local farmers and agri-business professionals to discuss the future of agriculture at the Northwest Iowa Ag Outlook. The annual trade show is an opportunity to highlight the latest technology in agricultural products, equipment, and services.

Summit’s booth at the Outlook showcased its carbon capture and sequestration project. The project will connect ethanol biorefineries across five states in the upper Midwest – Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota. The proposed project will capture carbon dioxide emissions from the ethanol plants, compress it, and transport it to North Dakota to be permanently and safely stored more than a mile underground.

By capturing and permanently storing carbon dioxide emissions from partner ethanol biorefineries, Summit Carbon Solutions will cut the carbon footprint of their ethanol in half, which will ensure the environmental and economic sustainability of these facilities for the long term by opening new markets and improving profitability.

Summit seeks broad stakeholder engagement through events like the Northwest Iowa Ag Outlook and through daily conversations with landowners along its project route to build awareness and to address questions or concerns they may have.  Hundreds of landowners have signed easements thus far and Summit will continue to work with all interested landowners in a collaborative way.

“Our project will transform the agriculture industry by benefiting ethanol producers, which will in turn help maintain stable corn markets and Midwest land values,” explained Jim Pirolli, Chief Commercial Officer at Summit Carbon Solutions. “It’s great when we can come to an event like the Northwest Iowa Ag Outlook and have face-to-face conversation with those impacted by the project while sharing the benefits.”

Summit recently filed pipeline permit applications in Iowa and South Dakota. The team continues meeting with landowners to secure voluntary easements.
