Dear Iowa Utilities Board Members, Huser, Lozier, and Byrnes:

As you know, Iowa communities depend on the economic well-being of core industries and employers. Our country faces more uncertainty with each passing day, meaning we as Iowans must do all that we can to sustain our business community. As a resident of Shenandoah, I have decided to support the partnership between Summit Carbon Solutions and Green Plains Inc.

Green Plains has decided it is best to decarbonize its fuel by signing on with Summit Carbon Solutions. This act will allow them to sell their fuel for a premium, keeping corn and land prices high. This unique opportunity to lower their carbon score will increase the long-term vitality of the plant and make it possible for home-grown ethanol to compete with electric vehicles.

Green Plains is a critical employer in my community and an essential component of the local economy. Therefore, I recognize the importance of preserving and investing in the future of ethanol. In addition to boosting the profitability of Green Plains Inc. and grain prices for growers, my county stands to receive over $1 million per year in new property taxes from Summit Carbon Solutions.

I sincerely hope the board recognizes the necessity of supporting the ethanol industry and Summit Carbon Solution’s initiative.
