Chair Huser board members Byrnes and board member Lozier:

On behalf of Vermeer Corporation, thank you for your service on the Iowa Utilities Board (IUB) and for your commitment to thoughtfully consider issues that come before you. I write you in support of the Summit Carbon Solutions Project. I believe this project aligns our Commitment at Vermeer to find a better way to care for our environment, our people and our business around the world.

For more than 70 years, finding a better way has inspired the way Vermeer does business. Our 4P philosophy-principals, people, product and profit-has set the foundation for how we treat others and the world around us. For the last 25 years, we’ve also been guided by a spirit of continuous improvement that has extended through every part of our operation. Combining our 4P foundation with our continuous improvement spirit, we strive for good governance and to be good stewards of all resources entrusted to us as we build, distribute and support Vermeer equipment doing important work around the world.

The summit carbon solutions project and Vermeer supports the development of technologies that will connect and build infrastructure to help achieve carbon emission goals and preserve the environment. Our customers, some of which will be active on participants in the Summit Carbon Solutions project, are connecting people to the necessities of life, managing natural resources, and feeding and
fueling communities.

Spanning across Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Nebraska, this project will capture carbon dioxide from the fermentation process of ethanol plants, compress the captured carbon dioxide, and channel it to North Dakota. There, it will be indefinitely stored underground. This will minimize the carbon footprint of ethanol production and maximize the long-term economic viability of the ethanol and agriculture industries. This project will also generate thousands of jobs during construction and many full-time jobs once it is operational.

Today, the IUB has an opportunity to play an important role in supporting Iowa’s economy and helping care for our environment through the support of Summit Carbon Solutions. I am confident in the ability of Summit Carbon Solutions project to execute this project efficiently and with the benefits of Iowans in mind.

Thank you in advance for your consideration of this project.

Sincerely,

Doug Hundt,
President, Industrial Solutions
