Iowa Utilities Board

Dear Chair Geri Huser and members Richard Lozier and Josh Byrnes of the Iowa Utilities Board,

On behalf of our employees at BendTec, LLC, I am writing in support of Summit Carbon Solutions’ carbon capture and storage project.

Carbon emissions are at the forefront of so many discussions around our country. Industries that previously weren’t affected are now developing plans to limit their carbon intensity. The ethanol industry is just one example of this shift playing out. Markets are changing, and if ethanol plants fail to also change, their previously steady revenue streams could see a sharp decline.

The project proposed by Summit Carbon Solutions will reduce the carbon footprint of ethanol plants across the Midwest. With a lower carbon intensity score, ethanol plants will benefit from an expanded market for their product. This benefit will be shared by farmers who can continue selling corn to their local plants.

Summit Carbon Solutions’ project will strengthen our economy and reduce ethanol plants’ carbon intensity, allowing them to enter into the low-carbon market and continue purchasing corn from growers across the Midwest. Please support them in this endeavor.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter, and feel free to let me know if I can provide any information to help you with your decision.
