Dear Members:

I was pleased to see that Golden Grain Energy, LLC, here in Mason City, has partnered with Summit Carbon Solutions to ensure its viability in the coming decades. This decision will help maintain a strong market for corn and support the ethanol industry which is key to our local economy.

Mason City and Cerro Gordo County will see direct economic benefits. Summit Carbon Solutions will invest nearly $50 million locally during construction and generate $1.9 million in new annual property taxes for our schools, roads, and hospitals. In addition, our hotels, stores, and restaurants will experience an economic boost during construction.

It will also open opportunities for other local partnerships and business expansions that will attract people and generate new jobs.

In partnering with Summit, Golden Grain will lower its carbon intensity score, allowing ethanol to be sold in markets that pay a premium for lower carbon fuels. This process helps ensure the plant remains open as the US moves toward industries with a lower carbon footprint.

I urge the board to join in supporting this project.

All the best,

Bill Schickel
