Dear Iowa Utilities Board,

As the former CEO of CORN, LP, an ethanol facility in Goldfield, IA, that has partnered with Summit Carbon Solutions, I am confident in the impact that carbon capture technology will have for Iowa’s agriculture industry. More broadly, this type of infrastructure is critical in order to adapt Iowa’s industries to developing market trends.

To start, I’d like to thank you for your time and consideration during SCS’s Iowa Utilities Board hearings. While contemplating the decision of whether or not to grant Summit a permit, I ask that the board consider the key facts behind this project.

• By allowing access to carbon capture technology, ethanol producers can tap into low-carbon fuel markets, which will enhance the long-term viability of the ethanol industry and ensure strong markets for Iowa’s corn.

• The project will create thousands of jobs and bolster local economies.

• Summit will generate hundreds of thousands of dollars in tax revenue for counties on their route. This money can be used toward schools, counties, and other community needs.

 • Summit’s core value is safety, and they are consistently working to maintain that status throughout the life of the project.

Ethanol producers around the state are supportive of Summit because they know carbon capture is a way of the future. The promises this technology holds for the future of Iowa are strong.
